At lunch break in summer we would have a test match in the stockyard, with cardboard pads, an oildrum for a wicket, a proper bat and a real cricket ball which started as white and changed to dust coloured as the game progressed. At 12.00 the two teams down tools and walk out onmto the scrapyard and someone, and it didn't matter whether he was Pakistani or white Sheffielder, would write on a big rusty piece of metal plate: Pakis v Rest of World ('cos we had Radiac Roy). Everyone of us who played in those games will be wondering what all this stupid stuff is that's going on.
